Suspended Google listing: a guide for doctors and healthcare professionals

Has your doctor's office disappeared from Google Maps? Are your patients no longer finding you when they search for "general practitioner near me"? Your Google Business Profile listing is probably suspended.

Healthcare professionals—doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, nurses—are increasingly affected by Google suspensions. The causes are often linked to specific rules that Google applies to healthcare facilities.

What needs to be done immediately:

  1. Do not change anything on your profile
  2. Identify the cause : shared practice, departure of a partner, overlap with Doctolib
  3. Gather your evidence : CPS card, RPPS, office lease, photos
  4. Submit a solid appeal with a complete file

Average wait time for a doctor: 7 to 14 days (Google checks healthcare facilities more carefully).

🩺 Doctor: Is your Google listing compliant?

Answer these questions to identify the risks of suspension on your record.

1. How is your Google listing name formatted?

2. Do you practice in a shared office with other practitioners?

3. Have you checked if there are any other records under your name?

4. Who currently manages your Google listing?

5. Do you have a professional sign visible at the entrance to the office?

6. Is your RPPS number easily verifiable online?

Why are doctors suspended on Google?

Google applies strict rules to healthcare professionals to protect users. A fake medical practice can have serious consequences, so Google prefers to suspend listings when in doubt.

Physician suspensions often occur because of:

  • Shared offices several practitioners at the same address
  • Duplication with directories Doctolib, Yellow Pages, and ameli.fr create automatic records.
  • Departure of a partner The former doctor sometimes retains access to the file.
  • Name of the non-compliant record "Dr. Dupont - General Practitioner Paris 15""
  • Work address vs. home address : poorly configured home consultation
  • Incorrect category Confusion between specialties

To understand all the suspension mechanisms, consult our complete guide to the causes of Google suspension.

The 6 most frequent reasons for suspension among doctors

1. The shared medical practice

Do you practice in a medical center or group practice? Each practitioner can have their own listing, but Google closely monitors addresses with multiple listings.

If the listings are misconfigured (same phone number, similar names, identical photos), Google may suspend them all for "suspicious duplicates".

2. The records automatically created by Doctolib

Doctolib, Yellow Pages, and other directories sometimes create Google Business listings in your name without your consent. As a result, you have two or three listings for the same practice.

Google detects duplicates and suspends — often the wrong listing (the one you actually manage).

3. The departure of a partner

Has your partner left the firm but their name still appears on the record? Or worse, have they retained administrator access and modified information?

Google sees conflicting changes and suspends for verification.

4. The "optimized" name with specialty and city

""Dr Martin - Dermatologist Paris 16 - Acne Specialist" is not a business name, it's spam in the eyes of Google.

The name should be simple: "Dr Jean Martin" or "Dr Martin's Medical Practice".

5. Incorrectly reported home visits

Do you make home visits? If you have checked "service area without fixed address" but you also have an office, Google may get confused.

Conversely, if you only consult from home without a fixed location, Google still wants a reference address.

6. Inconsistency with official records

Google can cross-reference your information with the directory of the Medical Council or the RPPS. If your name, specialty, or address does not match, it's a red flag.

⚠️ Group practice or medical center?

Shared practices are complex cases. Incorrect settings can lead to the suspension of all practitioners' profiles.

The essential evidence for a doctor

Google wants to ensure you are a legitimate healthcare professional practicing legally. Here's what they expect:

Professional documents — the most important ones

  • RPPS Number (Shared Directory of Healthcare Professionals)
  • CPS Card (Healthcare Professional Card)
  • Certificate of registration with the Order (doctors, dentists, pharmacists)
  • ADELI number (for professions not registered with a professional order)
  • Diploma or certificate of specialization

Administrative documents

  • Extract from the Trade and Companies Register (Kbis) or INSEE certificate (if operating as a company)
  • Professional lease for the firm
  • Practice agreement (if part of a group practice)
  • Certificate of professional liability insurance (RCP)

Visual evidence

  • Photo of the professional plaque at the entrance to the office
  • Photo of the facade with the address visible
  • Photo of the waiting room
  • Photo of the consultation room
  • Google Street View capture if the office is visible

Evidence of activity

  • Page on the directory of the Medical Association
  • Doctolib profile or other appointment booking platform
  • Website of the firm with legal notices
  • ameli.fr listing (health directory)

The full list is detailed on our page of documents to provide to Google.

How to write the appeal when you are a doctor

Google expects a professional and factual message. Here's an effective template:

""I am Dr. [Name], [specialty], registered with the Medical Council under number [number] and registered with the RPPS under number [RPPS]. I have been practicing at [full address] since [year]. The attached documents attest to my legal practice: CPS card, certificate of membership, office lease and photos of the professional plaque. I request a review of my Google Business Profile.""

For a group practice, add:

""I practice at the [Name of practice] which includes [X] practitioners. Each doctor has their own Google listing with their individual RPPS number. My listing only concerns my personal activity at this address.""

The complete appeal procedure is explained on Our guide to reactivating a suspended Google listing.

Common mistakes made by doctors

🚫 Create a new record instead of retrieving the old one
You lose all your patient reviews and seniority. And Google can suspend both listings for duplication.

🚫 Put the firm's name instead of your name
For a self-employed doctor, the record must be in your personal name ("Dr Martin"), not in the name of the practice ("Centre médical des Lilas") — unless it is a structure with several salaried practitioners.

🚫 Add keywords to the name
""Dr Martin - General Practitioner - Walk-in Consultations - Paris 15" will automatically be reported as spam.

🚫 Use the same form for multiple practitioners
Each doctor must have their own profile with their own RPPS number. A profile for "Dr. Martin and Dr. Dupont's practice" is not compliant.

🚫 Ignore listings created by directories
If Doctolib or Yellow Pages have created a listing in your name, you must claim it or have it removed. Otherwise, it's a duplicate listing that will penalize you.

Reactivation times for a doctor

Healthcare professionals are subject to more thorough vetting:

  • Simple case (non-compliant name, category): 5-10 days
  • Standard case (duplicate, shared office): 10-14 days
  • Complex case (associated departure, multiple forms, video call): 2-4 weeks

Every day without a patient record means patients making appointments elsewhere. 46% of patients search for their doctor on Google before calling.

More details on our reactivation timeframe page.

Special case: the departure of a partner

This is one of the most frequent and complicated cases encountered by doctors.

Classic scenario:

  1. You practiced in a group practice
  2. A partner retires or changes firms
  3. The Google listing was in the firm's name or managed by the partner.
  4. Contradictory changes are made → suspension

What to do :

  1. Clarify who owns the current record
  2. If it's the former partner: ask them for an official transfer
  3. If the record is in the firm's name: create your personal record
  4. Provide proof of your continued practice at this address (lease, RPPS, certificate)

Special case: the multi-professional health center

Multidisciplinary health centers (MSPs) and health hubs have a specific configuration:

  • A fact sheet for the structure (MSP des Lilas) with general opening hours
  • One record per practitioner (Dr. Martin, Dr. Dupont, Ms. Durand, physiotherapist) with individual information

Common mistakes:

  • All practitioners on a single sheet → non-compliant
  • No information sheet for the facility → confusion for patients
  • Same photos on all listings → suspected spam

Why hire an expert?

You spent 10 years studying to treat your patients, not to understand Google's algorithm.

What I do for you:

  • Accurate diagnosis of the cause of suspension
  • Duplicate check (Doctolib, Yellow Pages, ameli)
  • Personalized list of medical evidence to provide
  • Drafting the call in accordance with Google's expectations
  • Tracking until reactivation (or 50% refund)

While I manage your patient file, you manage your patients.
